With a focus on Energy Efficiency and Energy Infrastructure, the CEER 2012 Conference, on 25th January 2012, brought together 23 top-level speakers and more than 260 delegates in the impressive 300-year old Palais des Academies in Brussels.
Lively interactive discussions (in some cases hotly debated) contributed greatly to the huge success of the event.
Some highlights of the event:
- EU Energy Commissioner Oettinger headlined the event, setting out the ambitions of the Energy Infrastructure proposals
- MEP Correia de Campos (Rapporteur of the Energy Infrastructure Regulation) outlined how to tie up the loose ends of the Energy Infrastructure proposals.
- Rapporteur of the Energy Efficiency Directive, Claude Turmes (MEP) sported his cycling helmet as he passionately defended his proposed measures to improve the draft Energy Efficiency Directive.
- CEER President, Lord Mogg, committed to build a strategic 2020 customer vision of Europe's energy markets in dialogue with stakeholders.
The two themese were Energy Infrastrucutre and Energy Efficiency. Topics discussed included:
- Aligning the Infrastructure proposals with the 3rd Package;
- How to build a bottom-up and top-down TYNDP for the infrastructure needs of an internal energy market?
- Attracting investments - with new or traditional financing mechanisms;
- How can we reconcile energy and climate objectives with competitive market goals?
- What impact do non-harmonised renewable support schemes have on markets?
- What can we do to encourage changes in customer behavior?
